Session 3 > Dr. Alvin Reid

The power of Influence
  • If Scripture is true, it is true regardless of our circumstances.
  • There is no fence to ride – Jesus is a gate and he either lets us in or he doesn’t.
  • If you are mad at God you might as well tell him because he already knows.
  • There are some of us who need to put up or shut up in following Jesus
  • The question isn’t are you an influence – what kind of influence are you?

Acts 11:19
Barnabas and Saul were sent off to share the Gospel with those who never heard it.
1. Look for the grace of God

  • cant find it if you aren’t looking for it.
  • God has given all of us gifts to serve Him according to His plan – what is God’s perspective on us and our situation?

2. Choose joy

  • easier to be joyful when we see God working around us all the time.
  • The more you focus on self the less joy you have. The more you focus on God the more joy you have.
  • Your attitude is a choice – can be your friend or your foe.
  • God is always good but life is not always fair. Attitudes are contagious.

3. Be an encourager

  • encourage others to follow and focus on Christ.
  • When was the last time you encouraged someone? It’s not encouragement if you expect something in return.
  • Encourage someone every day!

4. Have integrity and character

  • Something about Barnabas that set him apart.
  • The most dangerous people in church are those who forgot that they are sinners.
  • If the Gospel is changing us we will hate sin!

5. Share Christ!

  • Hundreds of people on your school campus are living enslaved to sin and are a heartbeat away from being separated from God for eternity in hell!
  • Don’t separate your burden for a social issue from the desire to see people set free from bondage to sin! Jesus died for the traffickers and those who have had abortions too.
  • The are 350 million orphans in the world!

6. Mentor others!

  • Help them grow spiritually! Barnabas mentored Saul.
  • Maybe one of the most godly things you can do is to take a younger believer aside and help them grow spiritually.
